A barcode scanner inputs data into computer systems, much like a keyboard, but with specialized functionality to read barcodes and convert them into easily interpretable numbers or letters. It significantly increases speed and accuracy, reducing human error in data entry. Barcodes are generally divided into two types: 1D (one-dimensional) barcodes and 2D (two-dimensional) barcodes. Scanners can also be classified by usage: wireless scanners and corded (wired) scanners.
